Food company calls sheep cheese back for health-threatening coli bacteria

The food company "Francia Mozzarella GmbH" has started a recall for sheep cheese. The reason for this are health-endangering coli bacteria. French soft cheese is also currently being recalled because of the dangerous diarrhea pathogens.

Diseased germ discovered in cheese

The Berlin-based company "Francia Mozzarella GmbH" is recalling a sheep's cheese from the Italian manufacturer "Nebrodi Formaggi s.r.l.". According to the company, in the "Cheese Primo Sale with Black Pepper" with the best before date (best before date) 06.08.2019 and the lot number "LOT.070319Y" the shiga toxin-forming germ Escherichia coli was discovered.

Hazardous product

"The product is not marketable and hazardous to health," the company wrote in a message that the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety published on its portal "Lebensmittelwarnung.de".

"Therefore, we ask you either to return the goods at our expense or to dispose of them yourself," it says.

According to "Lebensmittelwarnung.de", the states of Berlin, Thuringia and North Rhine-Westphalia are affected by the recall.

The French cheese factory FROMAGERIE ALPINE is also currently recalling various types of cheese due to Escherichia coli.

Triggers serious illnesses

According to the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), Escherichia coli can cause serious diseases.

The bacteria can cause diarrhea (sometimes bloody diarrhea), abdominal pain and vomiting, with or without fever, within a week of consuming contaminated products.

In particularly severe cases, the kidneys are also badly affected.

"Infants, toddlers, older people and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk," said the BfR in an older communication.

More recalls

Numerous products are currently being recalled from the trade. A seesaw can lead to suffocation. Soft cheese contains EHEC germs and Ikea also gets products from the trade. (ad)
