Sleep is the state of rest and regeneration. A basic distinction is made between REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement) and NREM sleep (Non Rapid Eye Movement). When we fall asleep (NREM sleep), the pulse and respiratory rate decrease and brain activity changes. In the REM sleep phases we dream more intensely, the characteristic eye movements can often be observed here in the sleeper.

For a restful sleep, it is important that the various sleep phases are run through, with the first REM phase usually occurring after around 90 minutes in adults. The exact processes and relationships of sleeping have not yet been fully explained, but relationships, for example between the ability to learn and REM sleep, can already be assumed. Far-reaching relationships between sleep quality and health have also been proven by various studies.
